KEVIN ROTH-The Painter
Oils on Canvas. Giclee Reproductions
I traveled the UP of Michigan in late 2011 and took some photos of the lighthouse in Eagle Harbor. It was a gray and gloomy day. When I decided to paint a picture of it I thought it would be better with a bright sunrise and a fisherman. 16x20
The final, and longest to complete from the series. Like Bleeding Hearts, the background is as I saw it. It was a late day sun shining on the petals that caught my eye. The background was mostly shaded except for a few of the green leaves.
The third painting from the series. The background as I saw it was the siding on my home. It wasn't a difficult decision to make a blue sky instead of the siding.
After the painting of my brother-in-law turned out so well, I decided to surprise our good friends, Al and Kris with this for their 25th anniversary. I had their children secretly photograph themselves and send me the pics. I chose my favorite of each and decided where to place them in the painting. They were surprised.
I hadn't yet painted one of my Through the Window scenes of a winter theme. The Linus Story is meant to show the contrast between the traditional and modern Christmas. 20x30
A large and heavy painting, I stretched this over 2x2 boards with some leftover canvas. I don't want to name it The Nineteenth Hole, as that is too obvious of a name. The foursome enjoying a beverage is the foursome I regularly golf with. 27.5x29.5
Mark Schmidt was my brother-in-law. This was my first attempt at a portrait. It turned out perfect and looks exactly like he looked. Mark died in October 2012 after having mylenoma for 5 1/2 years. I gave the original to my sister that year for Christmas. The painting took about 6 1/2 hours to paint after sketching it. 8x10
Over this past winter, I wanted to paint several smaller paintings, so I decided to paint the seven flowers planted in my yard. I started with this one, a close up of a tulip, which I had photographed earlier in the year. The original is 11x14, as are the canvas giclee and acid-free cotton-rag giclee paper prints I have had made of the image.
I painted this just after I completed '57 T-bird. There were many changes during the painting of it, as I kept deciding I either didn't like the was something looked, or I got new ideas of things to add. The photo on the wall is of my grandmother and her family just after my great-grandmother died. My grandmother is the one on the far right. Prints are available in giclee canvas and cotton-rag paper.
